NCC builds energy-efficient homes. We take the environmental perspective into account in the design and building of new housing projects in a variety of ways.

NCC is building the new Sampo housing area in Kaleva, Tampere. Two blocks of flats consisting of 83 flats each have already been completed, and at the moment we are constructing a block of flats with 52 flats entitled Kullervo of Sampo.
Kullervo’s energy consumption will comply with the requirements of energy class A. We will make the building airtight and simultaneously ensure that the air-conditioning is adjusted correctly from the perspectives of the building, air quality and residents. The design of the shape of the building and the placing of windows, as well as the choice of windows, aim to minimise heat loss. Modern equipment also allows us to carefully recover the heat from room exhaust air. Kullervo will be connected to the district heating network.
Environmentally friendly taps will be installed in the flats. Water consumption (cold water) is measured by the flat, benefiting each resident individually in saving water. Household appliances contribute significantly to the electricity consumption of flats. Household appliances in Kullervo will be energy class A at minimum.
We cooperate in development activities within the NCC Group and research institutes, including VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Aalto University School of Science and Technology and Tampere University of Technology. Energy consumption is the single greatest challenge housing poses to the environment, so we have chosen saving energy as our most important focus area.
