Finland's First Green Building project

The status is granted by the EU and the approval was given on May 5, 2009. The Home Center Sveitsin Portaali was finished in 2007 and it is owned by a real estate company managed by Ejendomsinvest.

The energy consumption of a Green Building project must be at least 25 per cent less than in a corresponding target built according to regulations. In the Home Center, the calculated and realized consumption of energy was 44 per cent lower.

Lower than normal energy consumption was achieved, for example, by improving the tightness of covering, by optimizing the heating, plumbing, ventilation and electrical installation systems to suit to tenants’ needs with room-specific energy measurements and by focusing on utilization guidance and monitoring during use.

- When realizing energy and cost-efficient real estate, in addition to careful building, the successful utilization and thorough guidance of maintenance personnel are crucial. This ensures implementation according to the plan, and the ability to fine tune the systems when situations change. Good co-operation between the realizer of the target and new owner is of primary importance, says Jukka Manninen, Unit Director of Finnish NCC Property Development.

The importance of energy-efficiency will increase even more in the future, and these needs are taken into consideration in all business premises targets developed by NCC. The following Green Building application will be submitted for the first phase of the Lempola Retail Park built in Lohja.
